Don't Bring Green Bean Casserole to Thanksgiving Again This Year!

Don't bring the same old green bean casserole to Thanksgiving Dinner this year! Start a new tradition this holiday with The Elf on the Shelf. This is an activity the entire family will enjoy. Based on the tradition Carol Aebersold began with her family in the 1970s, this cleverly rhymed children's book explains that Santa knows who is naughty and/or nice because he sends a scout elf to every home. The elf watches the children's behavior and reports it back to Santa each night. By morning the elf "returns" to its assigned home and "hides" in a different location, allowing the children to play a delightful hide-and-seek game. The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition includes an exquisite 10" x 10" hardbound children's book--illustrated by award winning artist Coe Steinwart, a vintage-like pixie elf doll that sits approximately 8" tall, and a certificate commemorating the adoption of the elf by a family, teacher, or other group. Additionally, this unique gift includes a festive keepsake box for convenient storage. The purchase of The Elf on the Shelf allows you to give more than a gift. Instead, you are giving a priceless treasure...the creation of lasting memories. This is the perfect gift to give to your children, nieces and nephews or grandchildren this Thanksgiving!

Green Toys

piggy roo is excited to offer Green Toys for your kids!

Green Toys uses recycled milk containers as the main ingredient in creating their toys. Yes, the exact plastic milk jugs that you and your family drink from every day. When you finish your milk and toss the container in the recycling bin, these milk containers are collected at your curb by a local recycling company, who then sorts them from all the other types of plastic. Next, the milk containers are reprocessed into super clean fresh plastic. For you plastic geeks, the plastic material they use is called high-density polyethylene (or HDPE). This material is considered one of the safest, cleanest plastics around.

We offer their beautiful Tea Set, Cookware Set and Sand Play Set. All Green Toys products are packaged in recycled corrugated boxes with no plastics, cellophane or twist-ties, and are 100% recyclable. So, not only are they earth-friendly and ready for your recycling bin, they are really easy to open for those little fingers just itching to get at the toys!!

Our Favorite Toy - Sticky Mosaics from The Orb Factory

This is a new feature that we will be updating each week. We will be giving you an in-depth look at one of our favorite toys!

This week we are featuring Sticky Mosaics by The Orb Factory. We absolutely love these for all children ages 5 - 9. A lot of the themes are geared towards girls, but they have some new products releasing this spring that should excite the boys as well - see the 3-dimensional castle below!

The basic idea behind the mosaic is a printed heavy cardboard "scene" that is covered with numbered squares. Children take the small sticky foam squares and cover the corresponding number on the cardboard. We especially love this product because it's easy for the child to learn and does not require supervision (no glue, no markers, no paint!!). The kits even come with plastic picture hangers so the finished product can be hung for all to admire.

These kits have been praised by educators for helping children with their eye-hand coordination and fine motor skills. In fact, many nursing homes are now using these products to help the elders in their care maintain and increase their finger dexterity and coordination.

Check out our entire line-up of Sticky Mosaics at piggyyroo.com. At under $15 for most kits, they are a perfect birthday gift for all the crafty kids on your list!

Back from Toy Fair!

Hi all -

We are back from a whirlwind 5-day trip to New York City! We attended the annual TIA Toy Fair to find all the latest and greatest toys for 2008.

We saw lots of new products and great new items from our favorite manufacturers. Lots of the new toys we found are eco-friendly products made from sustainable natural woods. We also saw lots of organic cotton toys. Look for these to be added to the piggyroo website soon!

That's it for now - more news soon!
